From TML Testing Wiki

(Redirected from Volume of air)

On this wiki **V _{a}** is a mathematical abbreviation for

**volume of air**.

## Uses[edit]

One use for the **volume of air** is used to calculate the Volumetric Water Content, θ, of a soil or cargo.

## Equations[edit]

The following equation can be used to determine the **volume of air** of a soil or solid bulk cargo:

Where:

**V**=_{a}**volume of air**,- ρ
_{d}= dry density (t/m^{3}or g/cm^{3}), - ρ
_{st}= specific gravity or particle density (t/m^{3}or g/cm^{3}) and - w = net water content by weight (%).
