Components of a soil or material to calculate the gravimetric and volumetric water contents.
On this wiki Va is a mathematical abbreviation for volume of air.
One use for the volume of air is used to calculate the Volumetric Water Content, θ, of a soil or cargo.
The following equation can be used to determine the volume of air of a soil or solid bulk cargo:
- Va = volume of air,
- ρd = dry density (t/m3 or g/cm3),
- ρst = specific gravity or particle density (t/m3 or g/cm3) and
- w = net water content by weight (%).
