- Group A - Those solid bulk cargoes which may liquefy if transported with a gross water content exceeding the Transportable Moisture Limit (TML),
- Group B - Those solid bulk cargoes which possess a chemical hazard which could give rise to a dangerous situation on a ship and
- Group C - Those solid bulk cargoes which are neither liable to liquefy (Group A) nor possess chemical hazards (Group B). Cargoes in this group can still be hazardous.
Each solid bulk cargo that is listed in the IMSBC Code has a schedule where the category or group is stated. If a solid bulk cargo is not specifically listed in the code the relevant authority should be contacted in regards to hazards it may pose during transportation.
