# Degree of Saturation

The **Degree of Saturation**, abbreviated as **S**, is the ratio of water to the total volume of voids in a soil. Expressed as a percentage, the **Degree of Saturation** can be determined using the following equation:

Where:

**S**=**Degree of Saturation**(%),- V
_{w}= volume of water, - V
_{a}= volume of air and - V
_{v}= volume of voids.
